What is Cranio-Sacral Therapy?
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on method that supports every system in the body, releasing tension and enhancing your body's ability to heal itself. It taps into a motion called the cranio-sacral rhythm that can be felt most strongly at your head (cranium) and the base of your spine (sacrum). By tapping into the "wave" created by cerebrospinal fluid movement in this system, the practitioner can use gentle touch to subtly correct imbalances or restrictions in the system, allowing tensions to spontaneously release and positive changes to occur throughout the body.
Cranio-sacral therapy works on a profound level to support healthful changes in all the bodies systems. In the nervous system, stress-related conditions often improve, including anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems and depression. As the body relaxes, circulation improves, resulting in increased energy, reduced pain, improved immune system function, and faster recovery from surgery and injuries such as whiplash. In the musculoskeletal system, cranio-sacral therapy provides relief for many painful conditions. Even complex problems such as TMJD, fibromyalgia, arthritis or sciatica often respond well to this gentle but profound therapy.
As physical tensions in the body may be connected to feelings, emotions can sometimes surface, which when released can further aid in relieving chronic tension and pain that has been stored in your body.
Sessions are performed fully clothed while lying comfortably on a massage table.
The session begins with a verbal evaluation/discussion of what the client is experiencing physically/mentally/emotionally, which leads to hands-on treatment on the table. Release (body unwinding, auditory/emotional) is possible, as is further expression of feelings, sensations and whatever else may come up. The session is dictated intuitively by the client's body/needs, and may last anywhere from 45 to 75 minutes.
